Lest we become comfortably numb

There is fatigue settling in amongst some in the fight against the corruption in this government. But there is no time and place for fatigue. This is a war of attrition, and by no means can we allow ourselves to be worn down by the brazen evil of this government.

It’s good to remember what the fight is all about.

It’s about the assassination of a journalist who uncovered Malta’s most corrupt scam, a life snuffed out so that the corruption can continue unhindered.

It’s about the dragging of feet and obstruction of justice in the due process to ensure that those responsible for her assassination are convicted.

It’s about the hundreds of Justyne Caruana stories of family, friends and sponsors of the party in government being given direct orders on a daily basis, direct orders costing taxpayers millions. Remuneration for loyalty.

It’s about government/Labour MPs or their proxies being given posts in all government agencies to ensure that the whole executive arm of the government is run by the Labour party.

It’s about the stifling of the truth and freedom of expression, the annihilation of Rule of Law.

It’s about a Prime Minister who defends wrong-doing by the members of his party. Just as Joseph Muscat dubbed Man of the Year for corruption defended his colleagues and close friends Keith Schembri and Konrad Mizzi.

It’s about the justification of the most obscene scams ever – Electrogas, VGH and so many others like the American University of Malta, scams that cost the taxpayer millions.

It’s about the documented stories of corruption exposed by the media on a daily basis.

Yet when we made our voices heard, things happened. We evicted Joseph Muscat and Keith Schembri from Castille. We got rid of Konrad Mizzi. We got rid of Chris Cardona. And we will ensure justice with all the means at our disposal. In Churchill’s words:

“We shall go on to the end. We shall fight in France, we shall fight on the seas and oceans, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be. We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender”.
